My computer used to run graphic demanding games perfectly but now my fps drops dramatically, what can i do?

In particular Team Fortress 2 ran very smoothly but now I experience these moments where my ping suddenly sky rockets and fps drops to about 5. I've reformatted many times to the initial status but this problem persist. Is there anything i can do to fix this or is it game-over? =(
